Paul installed his own AOSmith heat pump water heater with recirculation pump and Pioneer heat pump HVAC. EXTRA: Talk with Paul, a DIY master who is also a building inspector.

Bruce’s Home, Oakland: In a major remodel, Bruce added a heat pump HVAC, heat pump water heater, Induction range, electric heat pump clothes dryer, and EV Charger.

Peter & Andrea’s Home, Berkeley: Freshly remodeled inside: Vetrazzo countertops, glass pendants from Metro Lighting, salvaged wood, wood flooring with removable planks (Steller), condensation clothes dryer, heated bathroom floor, EV charger, solar tube lighting, L2L greywater system, heat pump HVAC and water heater, with a button-activated hot water recirculation pump.

Markos’ Home, Berkeley: This narrow bungalow was gutted and remodeled. Thickly insulated walls make it possible for a single ductless Mitsubishi heat pump ceiling cassette to heat and cool the whole living place. Sanden heat pump water heater, rooftop solar + Tesla Powerwall batteries, a GE Cafe Series Induction Cooktop, and all-in-one Clothes Washer & Dryer fitted neatly in a closet.

Amy & Will’s Home, Oakland: 1920s bungalow features ducted heat pump HVAC, heat pump water heater (Sanden), LG induction range, heat pump clothes dryer, laundry-to-landscape greywater system, electric fireplace, bike garage, urbanite in landscaping, rooftop solar, EV charger, and a remodeled kitchen with Fireclay tiles. EXTRA: They fully electrified but stayed on a 100-amp panel.

Stefanie’s Home, San Leandro: This all-electric home, surrounded by a gorgeous native garden, features heat pump minisplits, a Rheem heat pump water heater, large rainwater collection tanks, and an induction range. EXTRA: Stefanie’s SPAN smart electric panel monitors and controls the solar + battery system.

Pierre and Estella’s Home, Berkeley: This all-electric home features solar panels + battery, a ducted Fujitsu heat pump, Stiebel Eltron electric tankless water heater in attic, Bosch 2-gallon electric water heater under kitchen sink, GE Profile induction range, and EV charging.
