“Powered by 100% Renewable DEEP GREEN” sticker: The electricity to power our house comes 60% from the solar panels on our roof. The remaining comes from the grid. Our Community Choice Energy provider is MCE, and we’ve opted up to their 100% Deep Green service plan, so all the money we pay for electricity is earmarked to purchase CA-generated solar or wind power. In this way, our home is powered 100% by renewable energy and is a Zero Emission Home.
Standing Seam Metal Roof: 50% weight of asphalt shingle. Summer heat absorption is related to weight/mass, so lighter materials will hold less thermal heat, and will radiate less heat into the house, keeping it cooler in summer. Metal roof is a cooler, more energy efficient than Asphalt, and it lasts a lifetime, and 100% recycleable at the end. But it's 2x-3x more expensive to install. (Skyline Roofing, Lafayette, CA)
