Peter & Andrea’s Berkeley Home

Peter and Andrea recently completed a major interior remodel.

ENERGY & EFFICIENCY

  • 20-year old solar pv panels removed and installing new PV panels in 2025.

  • Sun light tube lighting in bathroom (e.g. https://solabrite.com/tubular-skylights/)

  • Did an “electric demand plan” with an electric consultant.

ELECTRIFICATION

  • Central ducted heat pump and HPWH installed (by Electrify My Home).

  • Gas meter has been removed and this week I’m upgrading the main electric panel from 100amps to 200amps.

  • EV charger

  • Condensation clothes dryer (non-ducted)

  • Electric resistance heated bathroom floor

WATER CONSERVATION

  • Recirculating hot water pump system with button activation

  • Laundry to landscape system (installed in the house – need to install landscaping system)

NONTOXIC & SUSTAINABLE MATERIALS

  • Vetrazzo recycled glass and concrete countertops

  • Matching reused glass pendants from Metro Lighting

  • Salvaged wood front door from Urban Ore

  • Salvaged on-site 120-year-old wood from demolition materials of the home (built in 1905) and planning to use it in the remodel, like what Freight and Salvage did on their walls.

  • Sustainable domestically sourced solid wood flooring system with easily removable planks (Steller floors)

OTHER

  • Used City of Berkeley roll off containers for C&D and compared pricing to WMAC (Berkeley is ¼ of the price!)
